Color Management and Profiling

A seamless color management system is crucial to success but can be difficult to configure. Eliminate the hassle of trial and error; turn to the experts. Three options are now available: An on-site visit, a fundamentals of color management training class and advanced color management and profiling certification class.

ON-Site Consultation: Fundamentals of Color Management: Advanced Color Management and Profiling:

On-Site:

During an on-site visit from an ONYX color expert, master the skills for calibrating, generating a color profile and maintaining color management parameters across devices.

Color Management and Profiling begins with a pre-trip assessment of your current workflow and color requirements by our experts. This enables us to meet your expectations while on-site. Over the course of the 2-day consultation, ONYX can build custom media profiles as well as provide your staff with the knowledge to profile on their own. This training is focused on color management and profile creation with ONYX software; however, the concepts taught are relevant to the understanding of color and color management throughout the industry.

Learning Objectives

The ONYX professional consultant will be on-site for two (2) full days covering the following topics:

Color Management Essentials

  • Learn to use color management in your workflow ensuring predictable output
  • Gain an understanding of ICC profiles and why they matter
  • Use recalibration to get consistent results
  • Maximize your color with ONYX

Custom Profiling

  • Evaluate your color and identify which ICC profiles need to be created
  • Create custom ICC profiles for your media on your printer

Prepare your staff to create their own profiles

  • Learn to create custom ICC profiles for your media
  • How to use a color device
  • Overcoming challenges of profiling difficult media
  • Learn to use ONYX Media Manager

Basic Requirements

  • Current version of ONYX software installed and a basic understanding of color theory
  • Color device on-hand, if you want to create profiles after the training
  • ONYX will bring a color device for training purposes and can arrange for the purchase of an x-rite i1.

Fundamentals of Color Management:

Learn the fundamentals of color management and custom media profiling from the ONYX color experts.  This session will give you the base knowledge needed to understand color theory and calibration, as well as, learning how to create and apply basic custom profiles.

Who Should Attend?

ONYX operators and technicians who want to improve their color output by learning the fundamentals of color management and media profiling.

One day of classroom and hands-on training workshop at an ONYX color training center.

  • Basic understanding of ONYX software

To participate in the hands-on activities:

  • Bring a PC-laptop with a minimum of Windows® 7 Professional 64-bit with the ONYX Thrive trial version installed. You can get the trial software at http://www.onyxgfx.com/downloads/.  Contact Support@onyxgfx.com for assistance.
  • Access to a Spectrophotometer in order to create custom profiles. A device will be provided for the training, but you are welcome to bring your own, if you have one.

Advanced Color Management and Profiling:

Become an ONYX Certified Color Management and Profiling expert in this intensive, 2.5 day workshop led by Onyx Graphics color professionals.

Who Should Attend?

ONYX operators and technicians with basic color knowledge, anyone who is responsible for maintaining color consistency with a basic knowledge of color management and profiling. Note: attending Technician Certification or Fundamentals of Color Management Certification a plus.

Course Details

2.5 days of classroom and hands-on training workshop at an ONYX color training center

Benefits of Certification

  • Learn from an ONYX color expert with years of industry and color management knowledge.
  • Get hands-on practice in making media profiles with relevant printers, media and color devices.
  • Learn how to profile using white and other specialty inks.
  • Discover best practices from the ONYX experts on how to best prepare files for printing, how to implement the G7 profiling standard and how to back up important RIP data.

  • Best practices in file preparation
  • Learn how to determine what input profile is associated to the file and how the profile influences the color managed workflow.
  • Configuring color management settings in the RIP
  • Learn how the setting in the RIP impact the source file.
  • Learn how to create and use spot color libraries and swatch books for achieving target colors.
  • Color profiling
  • Review basics of media profiling
  • Learn how to create custom media profiles including how to profile using white ink.
  • Learn how to implement the G7 profiling standard and verify data.
  • Backing up Data
  • Learn how to backup important settings of the RIP such as, printer drivers, media profiles, quick sets, and color libraries including custom spot colors and jobs.

 Course Requirements

  • Basic understanding of color theory, color management and profiling. ONYX Technician Certification, ONYX Fundamentals of Color Management and Profiling Certification or equivalent color management knowledge is a prerequisite.
  • To participate in the hands-on activities, bring a PC laptop with a minimum of Windows® 7 Professional 64-bit with the ONYX Thrive trial version installed. You can get the trial software at http://www.onyxgfx.com/downloads/.   Contact Support@onyxgfx.com for assistance.
