Well, for one thing it’s how we’ve implemented the Adobe® PDF Print Engine…
ONYX Thrive uses a single technology for raster image processing (RIPping) of all input file types. Other solutions in wide format advertise that they use the Adobe® PDF Print Engine, but the truth is they use the Adobe® PDF Print Engine only for PDF files. Any other file format such as PostScript® (PS) or Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) is handled by a completely different RIP technology. Can you believe that two different RIP technologies would be running on the same computer? To make matters worse if you run out of Adobe® RIP licenses on those “other” systems, it may even default to the secondary RIP technology on PDF files.
We believe it’s fundamentally flawed to have two different RIP technologies running on the same system. ONYX has committed to use only Adobe® technologies for ONYX Thrive whether you are submitting a PDF, a PostScript®, or an EPS. After all, how can you achieve reliability, fidelity and predictability if you don’t know which RIP is going to handle your file?
